Andy[x] is my “creative incubator” (studio-meets-lab) for freely exploring new ideas and projects, after 11 years of working at Google.

Areas of initial pursuit (as of May 2025) include applied AI, RF communication (terrestrial and LEO), music, transportation systems (automated and human-controlled), writing (fiction, non-fiction, linear, and interactive), travel, art (digital and analog), cybernetics, and programming.

These pursuits may yield research insights, new products, and/or new creative works. (Or not.)

I will share updates from these pursuits both on andyx.org and the Andy(x) mailing list These updates will be posted on an irregular basis, since I am also taking time off to travel and contemplate the larger context of my life. These travels may (or may not) intersect with the areas of interest above.

As you read this prospectus, or the newsletter, the contents may appear to you as a series of puzzle pieces, randomly selected without a clear view (yet) of the bigger picture. And perhaps they are! But they will all follow a common theme of “Andy-ness”, which those of you who know me well may recognize, either immediately or over time.

You may ask, dear reader, why Andy[x]? The suffix of [x] was chosen for its mathematical (and programmatical) history: x is commonly used to represent an independent variable or unknown value.

In addition, diving a bit deeper on the Wikipedia page for the letter X: “The modern tradition of using x, y, and z to represent an unknown (incognita) was introduced by René Descartes in La Géométrie (1637).” And since pursuing the unknown, or terra incognita, is what I love doing, the use of [x] was even more appropriate.

Finally, because the projects I’m pursuing are multiple & diverse, [x] felt like the right choice. And Andy[x] was launched.

Addendum: Since we are all standing on the shoulders of giants, I wanted to give credit to the various technoloogies used in building this site, including Hugo, and panr’s’ Terminal Theme for Hugo.
